Educational material based on a draft book, pending professional review. Not legal or tax advice. How we handle this
Federal tax collection, explained plainly

Open the envelope.
Then we will read it together.

Whatever is inside is already true. Reading it does not make it worse. Not reading it almost always does. TaxRZR explains the letters, the deadlines, and the legal ways out, and never asks for your phone number.

Two things to do tonight, whatever your situation
01

Write down the notice number, date, tax year, and deadline from every letter you have.

02

Set up your IRS Online Account at IRS.gov so you can see your balances tomorrow morning.

Start with your situation, not a topic

Find the line that describes you.

Go where it points. Come back for the rest when you can breathe. The full table has sixteen situations.

The notice ladder

Owing money and facing enforcement are two different things.

Some notices commonly appear in this order, but it is not required or guaranteed. Different tax periods can be at different stages, so check each notice and its dates—not just the code.

This ladder is illustrative, not a required sequence. A final levy notice (LT11, Letter 1058 or CP90) generally offers a 30-day CDP hearing request period; CP504 itself does not create a new, universal 30-day window. Check the tax period, date and instructions on your actual notice. Read the CP504 guide

The RESOLVE method

Seven steps, deliberately in this order.

Most people skip the first three and go straight to Options, which is how they end up applying for programs they do not qualify for.

  1. R
    Respond

Open the mail. Identify the notice, the tax years, and the deadline.

  2. E
    Examine

Pull your transcripts. Separate tax from penalties from interest.

  3. S
    Stabilize

File what is unfiled. Stop the hole from getting deeper.

  4. O
    Options

Only now compare the legal exits.

  5. L
    Leverage

Use your procedural rights. Negotiate from facts, not hope.

  6. V
    Verify

Get it in writing. Watch the account until it matches.

  7. E
    Endure

Build the habits that keep you from being back here.

What we will not do
  • Ask for your email, phone, or financial details before helping
  • Promise you will settle for less, or claim results we cannot verify
  • Accept payment from tax-relief firms or route you to one
  • Pretend this draft material has been professionally reviewed when it has not
